From spring to summer, all the leaves are green, so it’s hard to tell which ones are conifers and which ones are hardwoods. But in this time of year, the color of the blue pine always seems to be deeper, as the broad-leafed trees change to find their own light. Even the trees that change into different colors in the fall are even more beautiful to me. I hope that we can emulate the trees that don’t lose their color in the face of change and innovation, and that we can find our own color before this fall is over.
There is a saying in our culture, “water polo heart”. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the formation of the ○○ High School Alumni Association, and just as the saying goes, “The beginning is small, but the end will be great,” it is good to see that our alumni association is getting stronger and stronger, with more and more members participating in our meetings. It is urgent to strengthen the alumni association, not only to promote socialization among alumni members, but also to activate family gatherings, volunteer activities, and other aspects that are different from the past. I have taken on a huge task, and I will be working as the alumni president of ○○ High School from this winter. I think that we are all one in our desire to do good things, and I ask for your help.
Sean Covey, Vice President of Franklin Covey, said that there are things to check before setting your life goals: “There are four things you should check before setting your life goals. First, write down what you’re really good at (talent), second, what you really want to do (passion), third, what society wants (demand), and fourth, what you know is right (conscience).” How many people in the world have a job that satisfies all four of these items? If so, he is the happiest person in the world. Maybe it’s time for you to reevaluate whether or not you’ve set yourself a goal that satisfies all four.

High School Alumni Association President Inauguration Season’s Greetings

Good morning, high school alumni!
The sky is getting higher and clearer thanks to the lighter air. The leaves, having lost their moisture, are giving off the most beautiful colors they are capable of. During these drier months, nature’s creatures also seem to rustle whenever they come into contact with each other, and sometimes even the slightest friction can spark a fire that escapes easy containment and reduces the surroundings to ashes. Perhaps the return of the anxious fall is a reminder to keep our guard up? Perhaps what we need now is a little moisture, not just in nature, but in our own dull lives. We all need a little rain to breathe with someone, to have flesh on flesh, to make soft sounds together. Hopefully, our lives can become a little less dry and a little more breezy.
I am truly honored to be here today with you, my dear alumni. We are each contributing to the development of society in our own capacities, but we are gathered here again like mullets returning to their home waters. I was nominated as the president of the Alumni Association with the active cooperation and help of my fellow classmates, and my excitement and anticipation were preceded by worries and fears about whether I could do a good job. However, I will do my best to work for the development of the alumni association so that I do not add to the achievements of previous alumni presidents. I am no longer in my prime, but I am full of youthful ambition and enthusiasm. I hope to give you good energy every time I meet you. I look forward to the good, the bad, and the ugly, and everything that lies ahead.
Don Soderquist once talked about the important elements of leadership. “Peter Drucker was asked about the three most important elements of leadership. Here are his answers First, keep it simple. Don’t overcomplicate what you do. Second, the two most important language habits are using honorifics and saying ‘thank you. Third, never ask who is right, ask what is right.” It’s been said that great leaders keep things simple, care about others, and think for themselves to solve problems. I’d rather run for what needs to be done than run for a lot of things.
Peter Drucker once said. “Character is made of integrity and justice. Never put a man of bad character in charge.” He said that great managers are those who possess noble character and strive to realize justice inside and out. I can say that I have a rounded personality because I like to meet people and have many friends around me. I will try to be a person who can think about and ask how to develop our high school alumni association. If you can fill in the gaps with your continuous interest, encouragement, advice, and love, I think the alumni association will make infinite progress. I look forward to serving you.

Greetings from the Alumni President

Hello, members of the ○○ High School Alumni Association.
It is said that dogs bark at the sound of growing rice during the Autumn Festival, right? I heard that summer has passed and we have entered the fall, and it is getting quite autumnal. But even though it’s the Autumnal Equinox, summer hasn’t quite left us yet, has it? The scorching sun is still baking us. We’re nearing the end of August, and we’re already looking forward to the crisp fall breeze.
It’s hard to believe that summer will be gone before we know it. I don’t know what else to say, other than it’s been hot, but I hope we’re all able to cool down and get on with our lives. It’s been a few months since our reunion and it’s been great to see you all. There was a time when I was looking at the calendar and the clock to see where the time was going to go, and now it’s finally here.
In the heat of summer, it’s refreshing to reminisce about the good old days. There was a time in my neighborhood when we would all sit together on the flat ground under a big tree, slicing watermelon fresh out of the ice water to beat the summer heat. These days, we don’t have that luxury, and while I miss it, I breathe a sigh of relief just knowing that I get to see alumni on a regular basis.
And what’s a reunion without a few drinks to catch up with the faces you miss? It’s an essential part of any good occasion, but we don’t want to go overboard and break the mood. As with anything, moderation is the best policy.
With the encouragement of many alumni who have supported me with their strong alumni love and friendship, I have accepted the position of president of the alumni association, a position I had been considering for a long time. I have been fulfilling my duties as the ○th president of the alumni association, but I still feel that my capabilities are greatly lacking. I take this as a great challenge to improve, and I will do my best to work for the alumni association of ○○ High School in the second half of the year. I will continue to do my best as a member of the alumni association before I become the president.
Harvard Business School professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter once said about the characteristics of innovative organizations: “The most innovative companies say thank you much more than less innovative companies.” It’s been said that saying sorry and thank you should be done more often as time goes by and you get closer to each other. Perhaps we forget this simple truth in the name of busyness. As mentioned earlier, innovative companies live by saying thank you a lot. I want us to always realize that saying sorry and thank you to others, for whatever reason, strengthens our relationship with them.
We want to create our own space where we are happy when we meet. I would like to create an alumni association that we all create so that complex human relationships can be reduced to simple truths in the name of friends. I would like to promote the development of the school so that our younger generations can live with pride and pride as graduates of ○○ High School. As this is a gathering of many people, please honor your time commitment and look forward to the events that will follow. Thank you.

The year 20@@ is coming to an end. Having started the year with expectations and hopes, I wish you all the best in the new year, leaving behind the disappointments at home and work.
Greetings alumni, I’d like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us to celebrate the Alumni Association’s General Meeting and Year-End Night. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to the wives and spouses of our alumni for their generosity in helping us to organize this meaningful event.
Our alumni association is already approaching its third decade. It is with great excitement, but also with great responsibility, that I take over as President of the Alumni Association at this transitional point in our half-century. I believe that the biggest reason our alumni association has been around for 30 years is because each and every one of you here truly cares about it and has been actively involved.
All of us who have gone our separate ways since graduation, whether as wonderful husbands and fathers at home or as accomplished professionals or CEOs in the workforce, have been the driving force behind the development of the Alumni Association.
Now, my dear alumni, we are approaching 60. It makes me realize how fleeting the years are. When we first met, we were all innocent high school students with uniforms and gray hair, and now some of us are grandfathers, and some of us are sending our children away to be married.
It’s hard to believe that 60 is a number, but as they say, “life begins at 60. It is said that many people are lost in the transitional period of retirement, but we, the ○○ Alumni Association, have no worries, because we have family and friends to keep us company. With the warmth of our hearts and the genuine friendship of our midlife, we will write another chapter in our history.
As the president of the ○○ Alumni Association at this crucial time, I will contribute to rallying the strength of the alumni so that we can become an alumni association with warmth and the smell of people. I also ask for your unwavering cooperation and affectionate attention in the 20@@ years, and I will take the initiative to be a friend who laughs with you when you are happy, mourns with you when you are sad, and comforts you when you are sad. My dear and esteemed fellow ○○ High alumni, as we meet today on the threshold of fall, the smell of fall is beginning to be felt in the air around us. It’s a smell that I can’t quite put into words, but it’s something light and crisp, a smell that makes me feel good for no reason. As such, fall is the season of reading. What books are you reading these days? I’m a frequent visitor to the library, not only because I love to read, but also because I enjoy the unique smell of old books. The books that are often called masterpieces can be read over and over again. This fall, why not read a book that will stay with you? Autumn reading with deep contemplation will enrich your mind.
I am Mr. ○○○, and today I am inaugurated as the first president of the ○○ High School Alumni Association. It is a great honor for me personally to serve as the president of the Alumni Association representing the graduates of ○○ High School. At the same time, I am also worried about who I will be to the alumni association and its members. I believe that you entrusted me with this job with the intention of making me try harder because I am probably not good enough, so I will do my best to do a good job.
As many of you know, today is the 50th anniversary of ○○ High School. Under the warm September sunshine, we are gathered here to unite under the memory of ○○ High School. Thanks to the many alumni who have gone out into the world and done their best in their respective fields, our alma mater is now not only the most enviable school in ○○-gu, but also the most desired school for middle school graduates in Seoul with the implementation of the high school selection system. It’s almost the end of another year, and I think the word that goes best with the word “last” is probably “regret,” but when you feel regret, it means that you have challenged yourself to do something. It’s just that you’re disappointed that you didn’t do better. There’s only one month left in the year. Why does time fly by so fast? I’m proud of myself for always trying and challenging myself, and I hate myself when my plans don’t go as planned and I get delayed. But I’m also grateful for the time because I feel like I’m always improving.
Today is the 50th anniversary of ○○ High School, as many of you know. It also happens to be Teachers’ Day, and we are here today to unite under the memory of ○○ High.
Over the years, many of our alumni have gone out into the world and done their best in their respective jobs. Our teachers have dedicated themselves to the development of the school, and our students have grown without stopping. Now, it has become the most desired school for middle school graduates in Seoul, and I am even prouder to be a graduate of ○○ High School.
Dear ○○ High Alumni! Although our alma mater has been in existence for 50 years, it is not that old compared to other high schools. Therefore, although the Alumni Association has a great desire to contribute to the establishment of the beautiful and good traditions of our alma mater, due to various practical constraints, the current Alumni Association has not been able to fully fulfill the wishes and desires of the alumni.
As the eldest and oldest siblings of the Alumni Association, the first generation of seniors firmly established the foundation of the Alumni Association on a barren field so that the juniors would not feel lonely without their seniors, and the second generation of seniors built on the foundation of the first generation of seniors to lead a harmonious alumni association, a working and productive alumni association, and created a system that allowed the Alumni Association to develop by leaps and bounds.

Greetings from the President of the High School Alumni Association

Hello, everyone. I smell the sweet scent of spring flowers in April, and I often see butterflies here and there. Just like the cherry blossoms, the butterflies are fluttering their wings with vigor. It’s said that the color of the first butterfly you see each spring determines your luck for the year. If you see a yellow butterfly, good things are said to happen, and if you see a white butterfly, not so much.
This morning, I saw a yellow butterfly, so maybe something good is in store for me this year. Could that something good be the opportunity to become the president of the ○○ High Alumni Association?
I received a phone call from an alumnus who said, “Our flag bearer is going to be the senior vice president of the alumni association this year, do you think you can do it?” I was very hesitant and worried. I thought that the position of president is a position of honor if you do well, and a position of reproach if you don’t, and that I shouldn’t be on the executive board if I want to enjoy the alumni association that I love so much. However, I thought that if I really care and love ○○Go, it’s worth a try.
As I take office, I am overwhelmed with emotions and have so many people to thank. First and foremost, my friends. They unanimously voted for me and stuck by me through thick and thin, and without them, I wouldn’t be here today.
Next year is the 60th anniversary of our alma mater, ○○ High School. There are many issues that need to be resolved, such as how to organize a good welcome back party, the conversion and relocation of our alma mater to an autonomous private school, and the various issues surrounding the site of the alumni center.
We need the cooperation and support of politicians, the cooperation and budgetary support of all related organizations such as ○○ City, Gyeonggi-do, and the Gyeonggi-do Office of Education, and the united strength of all alumni. Please don’t just look on and say, “Let’s see how good he is!”, but gather even a small amount of strength.

Principal’s Inaugural Address

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our esteemed teachers, dear students, and all those who have taken this precious step.
We will remain faithful to the basics of education. The days of the mighty Dong General have passed, and there is a hint of smoke in the wind. I am Mr. ○○○, the new principal of ○○ High School, at a time when the hard chips are down and all things are alive and well.
These days, things change quickly. This wave of change has also had a profound impact on education, with new learning methods spreading like wildfire. But there is one thing that has stood the test of time: nurturing students’ character, honoring and nurturing their individuality.
Today’s students are more capable of learning than ever before, but in a strictly grades-driven world, they have not been taught honor and respect, and are becoming a generation that only knows themselves. Warmth and compassion are nowhere to be found. All these problems stem from the misdirection of schooling and the absence of character education.
In addition, children are losing interest in school due to the monotonous classes and timetables, and they increasingly see school as just a supplement to their academics. Furthermore, the lack of consideration for children’s aptitudes and talents has led to the loss or abandonment of many of the best and brightest in the arts.
In the face of this unfortunate reality, I will not make any grand promises to the teachers and students of this school, because education is an end in itself, not a means to an end. Instead, I promise to uphold the fundamentals of education that we have forgotten and are losing.
A building with a bad foundation will eventually collapse, no matter how many fancy finishes and decorations you put on it. As the saying goes, a house built on sand won’t last. A policy of innovation without character education is just as likely to collapse as a building with a bad foundation.
Students are the future of our country, and it’s up to us as adults and teachers to shape their future. I need your help to build schools that get the basics right. Please help me. Let’s show them what true innovation looks like. Let’s teach kids what’s truly important and give them what they can never get from the academy. Let’s walk together on the path to where education should be. We look forward to your help and input. Thank you for listening.

Good morning, everyone! It’s that time of year again, when the onslaught of the Winter Solstice has passed and there’s a hint of smoke in the air. The winds are still cold, but the smell of spring is in the air as we get closer to spring. The dry air is slowly coming alive, trees that looked dead are coming back to life, and new life is peeking out of the snow-covered ground. February is over, and soon March will be here, and then spring, right?
Spring is the season of rebirth. The air that surrounds us, the wind that blows, and the ground we walk on is full of life. Instead of cowering in the cold, open a window and take a deep breath. Let the life force that surrounds us enter your body and give you a stronger, more energized start.
It is with great pleasure that I take over as the new principal of ○○ High School at this time of year when all things are energetically alive. I believe that students are the future of our country, and it is up to us as adults and teachers to brighten their future. I need your help in building a school that keeps the basics.
Currently, we are teaching and training for the SAT. Children are losing interest in school due to the one-size-fits-all lessons and timetables, and are increasingly viewing school as just a supplement to their cramming sessions. Not only that, but the lack of consideration for children’s aptitudes and talents is causing many of the best and brightest in the arts to lose their dreams or give up. Of course, we adults who created this system are largely to blame.
A building with a bad foundation will eventually collapse, no matter how fancy you make it and how much you decorate it. It’s no different than building a house on sand. Education policies that emphasize innovation without character education, or jumping on a bandwagon, are just as susceptible to collapse as buildings with poor foundations.
Today, as I watch this sad state of affairs, I will not make any grandiose promises to the teachers and students of this school, because education is an end in itself, not a means to an end. Instead, I promise to uphold the fundamentals of education that we are forgetting or losing.
And I need you to stand by my side to help me make good on this promise. I will work to create a school for students, a school that students want. Thank you.

Hello, everyone!
Dear alumni of the 24th class of ○○School! The rain is falling silently from the sky, signaling spring. On the last day of February, the trickling rain signals that winter, which seemed to never end, is slowly receding. With this rain, the hardened ground will soften a little, and the black trees will turn green and alive.
How quickly time flies. It seems like just yesterday we were shivering in the cold, and now the rains are heralding spring. And soon we’ll be enjoying the warmth of spring. We may not be able to feel it yet, but we hope you’re warming up to the idea that spring is just around the corner.
Another 20@@ years have passed, and another line of our age has been added to the clock. We can’t stop the inevitable passing of time, but I think the answer lies in accepting that things happen in their natural order. I hope that our own friendships, the friendships of our friends, and the health and happiness of our families will continue into the new year.
While I am deeply honored to succeed President ○○○ as president of our alumni association for the coming year, I am nervous that I will be able to fulfill my duties.
But I have faith. I believe that as long as we continue to build on the solid organizational strength and the love and friendship of our alumni, the future of our alumni association will be very bright.
I’ve been out in the world, and I’ve found that there’s nothing more precious than an alumni association, and finding such a warm and welcoming group of people is as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack. That’s why I love our alumni association so much, and I hope that as much as I love it, all of our members will be proud of it and cherish it.
Please continue to send your love and friendship to me and the Executive Board for the coming year, for the sake of the Alumni Association. This year, there was news that the cold will arrive earlier than usual and the ski slopes will open earlier. This is great news for those of you who have been looking forward to the ski season, and we expect the slopes to be packed this month, but even better news is the official launch of our high school alumni association.
We’ve always been a group of people who just wanted to catch up with each other, but now we’re hoping to bring more alumni together to reminisce and contribute to the community. Thank you for nominating me as the first alumni chairman, and I think it’s a big role, and I will do my best to develop and harmonize the alumni association.
Maybe it’s because the real cold is upon us, but seeing you all makes me feel as happy as warm soup. We shouldn’t just hunker down because the weather is cold. As we reminisce about those days that we’ll never get back, we hope that we can create and share our own memories in the future.
