What will bring about the end of Homo sapiens? Will advances in cyborg engineering bring about the end of Homo sapiens?

In this blog post, we’ll explore whether cyborg engineering could be a factor in the end of Homo sapiens.

We often refer to humans by another name: Homo sapiens. It means “man of reason” or “man of wisdom”. So what are the most important characteristics of this species? If I had to choose, I would say that identity is the most important characteristic, because unlike other animals, Homo sapiens have the ability to think for themselves, and therefore, our individual identity is formed from the individual thoughts of all of us. Let’s take a look at how cyborg engineering, one of the latest methods of replacing natural selection with intelligent design, might affect human identity.
First of all, in cyborg engineering, a cyborg is a partial combination of living and non-living things. A simple example is a human with a bionic hand or prosthetic leg. However, even if we don’t have inorganic materials to replace our own body parts, it’s hard to say that we are not bionic beings, because we are surrounded by so many devices and machines in our daily lives, such as computers, televisions, and cell phones, which many of us carry around as if they were part of our bodies. In other words, we are walking a tightrope between being a true cyborg and a true bionic being. If you cross that line, it becomes a real part of the body, with inorganic properties and changes every aspect of who you are as a person.
So, could cyborg engineering be a factor in the end of Homo sapiens? I think not. This is not to say that cyborg engineering will only have a negative impact on humans. As I mentioned earlier, bionic hands and prosthetic limbs can be a great way to give people who have lost a part of their body in an unfortunate accident a new lease on life. In the case of bionic arms, they are currently limited in what they can do compared to biological arms, but they are advanced enough to interpret nerve signals from the brain into electrical commands and act on those commands. In short, it’s a bionic arm that works by thinking. However, cyborg engineering is a double-edged sword. While there are some positive things that come with the development of cyborg engineering, there are also many negative things that come with it. I believe that these negative phenomena will lead to the end of Homo sapiens. This is not because we will be conquered by robots like in the movie “I, Robot”. In other words, with the development of cyborg engineering, the robots produced by the advancement of robotics will become intelligent and will not be conquered by robots and cause the extinction of Homo sapiens. The reason for the apocalypse that I have come up with is the “identity” I mentioned above. When we think of cyborg technology, we usually think of prosthetic hands, prosthetic legs, artificial organs, etc. that are directly attached to the body. However, recently, there have been projects to connect computers and brains using cyborg technology. If successful, the connection between computers and brains will have a profound impact on human identity. Let’s take a look at why. If computers and brains are connected, it means that all the information in an individual human brain can be transferred to a computer. What would happen if many people’s brains were connected to a computer and their information was stored on the computer? There would be a kind of network of connections that would allow us to see other people’s memories, thoughts, and so on, just like the Internet. With such a network, one cyborg would be able to search the information in another cyborg’s brain and think of it as if it were its own. This process will gradually disrupt the individual’s identity – their memories, traits, personality, and tastes – and blur the lines between self and other. In this confusion, humans will have difficulty thinking normally and will gradually lose their reason and intelligence.
This is the danger of indiscriminate acquisition of other people’s memories through the brain internet. Currently, we live in an endless stream of information on the internet, which is widely available. We are literally living in a “flood of information”. Even now, when the brain is not developed, many people lose their identity in this information. When we look at other people’s posts, we initially interpret them using our own imagination, but we gradually become colored by their ideas and lose our own. Of course, not everyone loses their identity, but just thinking about other people’s materials can have a great impact, and what about the impact of directly encountering other people’s memories? It will have a tremendous impact that cannot be compared to simply reading and encountering texts. Even though the Internet of the brain has not yet been developed, as humans, we, as homo sapiens, will have to try to maintain our own thoughts in the swamp of information and maintain our individual identity and reason.
